I love tree ferns! But they don't like the full sun and can suffer dreadfully in summer. I sometimes walk along the aqueduct trail at Warburton and there are some gorgeous, and very large, tree ferns there. The fronds often look like some sort of creature poking its head up to look around. They remind me of emus a bit.
That was one of the reasons we cut the original fern down Mary. The top was taller than the house and was getting burnt badly every summer. Being so tall we couldn't protect it, hence the radical hair cut! What a beautiful area Warburton is!
