Dame Nelly Melba Bathed Here!

These are the taps over the old bath at the historic home Beleura on the Mornington Peninsular in Victoria. On visiting the home we were told that Dame Nellie Melba used to stay there as often as she could because she liked to partake of a salt bath. The tap on the far right dispenses cold salt water which was pumped up from the beach by the servants of the house. They had to pump it up into huge lead water tanks on the roof and then heat it up so that the Dame could turn on the left hand tap and have a nice hot salt bath. No wonder they groaned when told that she was coming to stay!
