This is a Lyrebird, one of the iconic birds seen here in Victoria. Not only does it have a gorgeous tail to display, which it isn't doing here, it can mimic almost any noise it hears most convincingly. There are recordings of birds mimicking chain saws and various other motors, all the other birds in its vicinity, hammering, people chattering in various languages and so on. This particular bird was imitating Kookaburras and Bush Curlews whilst we near it at the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary in country Victoria.
