I've sewn around the red stripes and also the major lines of the background design in a polyester thread to give a bit of shine and definition to the stitching. Here I'm stitching the plant design from the back in black thread to look a bit like a sketch. I decided not to go with the flower overlapping the red bar, as it might be difficult to paint the petals over the colour of the bar.
