The Girls are doing well.

Can you spot Roy?
Each of our hens lays eggs with a different shade of egg shell, corresponding to the colour of her feathers. Roy (named by a 3 year old) is the darkest and her eggs are dark and speckled.

Fifth in the Series.

Another piece in the world architecture series. This time Mexico was the country chosen, featuring the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza. I wish that I hadn't printed the series of skulls at the top right, and I further wish that I hadn't machine stitched them! I was trying to make them look a bit like the original rock carvings, but I don't think it worked. Probably would have been better without them.

I don't think that anyone has been through this gate in quite a while. I'd love to explore the house behind all this shrubbery, it appears to be abandoned. Amazing to think that this is on a major road not far from the busy city of Melbourne!

Another Version.

This version is quite O.K. but perhaps not as dramatic as the previous one.

With Inversion.

The image is certainly more stitchable with the black and white reversed.

Mayan Imagery.

This is a tracing of the main bird image with a few added skulls above to make the size better for the required A5 format. I have filled in several areas and hope the image will lend itself to some Photoshop manipulation before stitching.

The Next in the Series.

The next country chosen by one of our group of 7 for a textile piece based on it's architecture is Mexico, particularly the ancient Mayan site of Chichen Itza. The carved stone panel above is one that looked interesting and possible to have fun with, so I have chosen to work on the left hand bird-like image for my textile piece this month.

More Gelatin Plate Printing

Of course 'brushes' of various elements of the prints can be made and used. More of that tomorrow!
