Not to be Played with!

               That snout belongs to Polly, who knows full well that you don't play with Echidnas.
                                                    These spines are really hard and sharp.


These are very shy creatures who bury their heads underneath and tuck them selves up when they perceive danger.  I took this picture from quite a distance away, hence it's not really in focus.

Great photos. I had reason to ring Parks Victoria yesterday, about a kangaroo near the Eastern Freeway, and they gave me the number for another government department that deals with native animals. I learnt all about what to do with wombats, kangaroos, etc. They also had info about echidnas. Apparently they can leave their nests for up to 5 days and we should leave them alone unless they are obviously injured. I rarely see them, so thanks for the images.
