Trying to Escape the Bush Flies!

An overseas visitor trying to escape the hundreds of flies in the local area all intent on walking across his face!

A Good Season for Camellias.

Various forms and colours of the Camellias in flower in my garden at the moment. The strange coloured one second from the bottom is actually that colour, or even a bit darker. It is apparently called a Port Wine Camellia, it's very unusual and was planted by a former owner of the garden.  Unfortunately the flowers drop immediately they are cut.

Sky and Sand Ripples.

These lovely cloud formations reminded me so much of ripples in the sea sands that I went ahead and inverted the colours in Photoshop and the clouds now do indeed look for all the world like ripples in the wet sand at the edge of the water......I even have a clump of bleached seaweed (tree leaves) in the corner.

What a Beautiful Tail.

This is a Lyrebird, one of the iconic birds seen here in Victoria. Not only does it have a gorgeous tail to display, which it isn't doing here, it can mimic almost any noise it hears most convincingly. There are recordings of birds mimicking chain saws and various other motors, all the other birds in its vicinity, hammering,  people chattering in various languages and so on. This particular bird was imitating Kookaburras and Bush Curlews whilst we near it at the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary in country Victoria.

Here are a pair of Bush Curlews, once called Bush Thick - Knees!

It's Spring!

The wattle is out in full bloom, so it must be Spring.

You Can't Keep a Strong Gum Tree Down!

This huge old Gum tree was obviously chopped down at some stage, but has burst forth anew from the centre of the trunk.

Froth and Bubble.

A quiet backwater of the river that looks like someone has done their washing along the bank somewhere.
